AltaMed Family Medicine Residency Welcomes 2026 Cohort — 627 Applicants for 6 Spots, Expansion of CMA + LACMA Workforce Partnership

AltaMed Family Medicine Residency Program (FMRP) welcomed its 2026 cohort on Match Day (March 20) — 6 residents from a pool of 627 applicants and 87 interviewees. Since 2020, AltaMed has produced 18 family medicine physicians through its FQHC-based residency. The CMA + LACMA + AltaMed physician workforce partnership (originally announced 2019) demonstrates the FQHC residency model as a viable response to California's rural and community physician shortage. Strategic implication for CA FQHCs without residency programs: the AltaMed FMRP applicant ratio (105:1) signals both candidate enthusiasm for FQHC-based training AND the bottleneck of FQHC residency capacity. NACHC Teaching Health Center expansion + HRSA NHSC + new Rural Northern California Medical Education Consortium efforts could collectively close pipeline gap by 2030 if funded consistently.
