AB 2161 becomes law and keeps Medi-Cal active during work checks
Issue
Governor Newsom approved AB 2161 on September 14, 2026, and it was chaptered as Chapter 209. People renewing during a six-month check who meet all other rules keep Medi-Cal until at least the end of the month their 30-day response period ends.
Before denying coverage, DHCS must consider every other basis for Medi-Cal eligibility.
