Certification pathway

CHW certification and Medicaid reimbursement.

Requirements vary by state. In California, CHW services have been reimbursable under Medi-Cal since July 2022; other states use different certification, Medicaid, or promotor/a pathways.

Training options

Approved DHCS training programs (community college, community-based, online). Most are free or low-cost.
