Five governors ask HHS to delay the Medicaid work rule deadline
Issue
On October 1, 2026, the governors of Oregon, California, Maine, New Mexico and Virginia asked the HHS secretary to delay Medicaid work requirements, as Healthcare Dive reported. They wrote that states cannot meet the January 1, 2027 compliance date while protecting enrollees, and asked for a reasonable extension.
