KFF says Medicaid is a third of rural health center revenue
Issue
KFF reported on October 5, 2026 that rural health centers served 10.2 million patients in 2025, 31% of all health center patients. Medicaid made up 32% of rural health center revenue versus 49% for urban centers, while Medicare made up 19% versus 9%.
KFF says it is unclear how far Rural Health Transformation funds will offset revenue losses.
